Solid potassium formate. HCOOK, CAS 590-29-4 — the dry crystalline version, showing up as white to off-white free-flowing powder or flakes, purity running 96% to 99%. If your business involves drilling fluids, deicing product formulation, or chemical distribution with bulk inventory, the solid format usually makes more economic sense. You ship more active ingredient per container, store it longer, and mix your brine at whatever concentration the job demands.

Purity options: 97% standard, 99% premium. The impurity profile for the 99% grade: KOH at or under 0.5%, K2CO3 at or under 1.5%, KCl at or under 0.5%, moisture at or under 0.5%. A 50 g/L solution at 25°C reads pH 9.0–11.0. Water solubility: 317 g per 100 mL at 18°C — genuinely high, so on-site brine prep goes fast even with cold water. Density: 1.91 g/cm³. Molecular weight: 84.12.

Word of caution: it's hygroscopic. Moisture-proof packaging is not optional — 25 kg moisture-proof woven bags with PE inner liners, or 1000 kg FIBC jumbo bags. Open a bag, use it. Don't let it sit.

Oilfield service companies dissolve this stuff to prepare high-density brine (up to 1.58 g/cm³) for drilling, completion, and workover jobs. The resulting brine inhibits shale hydration, stabilizes wellbore walls, and minimizes formation damage — outperforming halide brines while staying within environmental regs. Deicing product manufacturers blend it with other organic salts to create high-performance, chloride-free snow melting formulations. Additional uses: leather chrome tanning as a masking acid, textile dyeing as a reducing agent, cement early-strength agent, and as feedstock for potassium diformate production in animal feed.

Mixing a 75% brine from solid? Dissolve 75 kg of the solid in 25 kg of water with agitation at ambient temperature. You'll get roughly 1.58 g/cm³ density.

97% vs. 99% — does it matter? For oilfield drilling and sensitive industrial jobs, yes — the 99% grade has tighter impurity limits, and in downhole chemistry even trace contaminants can cause problems. For deicing formulation and general use, 97% gets it done.

Container capacity? About 25 MT per 20-footer in 25 kg bags (no pallets); 20 MT in jumbo bags.
